Welcome to the fourth day of the Paranormal Romance Blog Tour! I’m happy to announce, it’s me! I’m featured today, with an interview to let you know all about my dark secrets. Plus, I’ve just launched the first novella in the sequel to my most popular series. Never Date A Vampire takes place moments after the Beware of Warlocks series ends. 1) What is one of your most memorable Halloween memories as a kid?

Marilyn Vix: One of the things I remember is hanging out with the families and kids of my Dad’s band growing up. Each family hosted a holiday. New Year’s was at one house. Halloween was our holiday. So, each year, three families would gather, and we’d have a blast trick or treating around the neighborhood. And of course, put three sets of adults together, and you figure they would get bored unless they did something. Thus, our neighborhood haunted house began. For several years, we hosted a haunted house for the neighborhood while the parents all did the haunted. One year, the mom’s were on the lawn as witches with dried ice in a cauldron. The Dad’s all were vampires handing out the candy. Of course, the kids had to make their way to the front door, to get to the candy, and they had to get by some jump scares to do it. It was, I realize now, the times of our lives.

I look at these memories so fondly now, since the last time I just saw all these fine folks was at my Dad’s memorial in January. To be honest, writing this has brought some tears, because I lost my Dad at the end of last year, and miss my him so much. But I’m so thankful for these Halloween memories now. 2) How did you inspire yourself when you were writing Never Date A Vampire, your new paranormal romance novella?

Marilyn Vix: I have to admit, I had some writer’s block when it came to this novella. I started it in 2016, and had really trouble getting into the character of Cassandra. I really thought about why, and I realized I liked Cat, since she was a witch. And then it suddenly clicked, what needed to happen to Cassandra and the difficulties she would face. I went back and deleted about 3,000 words to completely rewrite parts of it. It was a great break through when I had the idea to change some of the plot. And the novella took off from there.

 

3) What kind of writing routine do you have? What techniques do you use?

Marilyn Vix: When it comes to writer’s block, sometimes I just put a project aside until I get inspired. I found that time away will help unravel the blockage. Plus, I also find making up a YouTube playlist to write to gets me into the mood for writing. Once I had the plot change break through, I mixed up a “Never Date A Vampire” YouTube playlist, and the novella came pouring out. The link to the playlist is below. I will have to warn you, there is a lot of Kpop in it. But Kpop vampires are pretty awesome. 😉

 

3) What are some of your upcoming projects?

Marilyn Vix: I’m working on a kpop romance right now. I’ve been working on it for over two years now, and I’m in the editing phase. I took a break from it to finish the new novella, but I’m going to return to it. I’ve found new inspiration in the Kpop avengers or SUPERM, which has my bias in it, Tamien. My kpop rom involves Kpop idols crossing the pond to try to make it here. I am THRILLED it is finally starting to happen. It fits so well with my novel, I’m almost giddy now. Hopefully, it will come out in spring or early summer of 2020.

And to note, I am so excited I have a ticket to see SUPERM at my local town’s arena in February. Best research ever!
