Last Day to Vote for Everything For Love on Kindle Scout

everything-thumbnail

Kindle Scout Campaign ends Dec. 8, 2016.

This is it! Today is the last day to vote for my time travel romance, Everything For Love, on Kindle Scout. Over the last 30 days, I’ve been telling everyone, running Facebook promotions, tweeting, and in just general getting the word out about my first full length novel. I’ve been working on this story for three years, two years to write and one year of full editing. I am so proud to do a preview of it as a submission through Kindle Scout.

What’s Kindle Scout?

Kindle Scout is the Amazon submission program for their ebook press, Kindle Press. It replaced the annual “Amazon Breakout Novel” contest. Instead of publishing one book a year, Amazon now takes on continuous submissions that go through a 30 day campaign with readers that stop by the Kindle Scout website. A profile is uploaded of your manuscript (usually first two chapters), a blurb, cover, and tagline. Plus, there is a short author interview. With these enticements, readers can decide if they want to nominate your book to be published by Kindle Press.

So, today is the last day for nominations for my novel. If you like a good Time Travel Romance set in Paris 1899 and London 1914, suspense, Steampunk and a love triangle, check it out. Plus, the time machine is powered by sex. So, my heroine, Deidre, is quite a frisky girl. But I figured she’d have to be, especially since she comes from about 2160. Sex would have different society guidelines by then. But I digress. You can tell I had to do a lot of thinking about time travel and how to power her machine while writing this sci-fi romance.

If you so deem my novel worthy, you can also enter for a gift basket and Amazon Gift Card by posting a screen shot or mentioning you’d voted at this event on Facebook:

Paranormal Romance Blog Tour 2016 Day 3: Author Interview with Virginia Hunter

prblogtour2016finalWelcome to Day 3 of the Paranormal Romance Blog Tour 2016. Today, each author will be posting an author interview of one of the participating authors. Visit all the websites to get the full experience of the tour. Tomorrow, come back for book reviews of each of the featured books.

For my interview, I had the pleasure of being able to have the conversation with Virginia Hunter. Her book series, The Coven’s Grove Chronicles, is also a witch series. It was awesome to see more of this niche genre in paranormal breaking out. I absolutely loved “Bewitched” as a kid, and always took the road that witches were not evil, but just misunderstood, powerful women. I really enjoyed talking to Virginia, and sharing about our projects.

How did you get the idea for your current book?

image

Virginia Hunter is the author of the Coven’s Grove Chronicles.

Virginia Hunter: I love all things Halloween! Witches are powerful women. Books about them seemed like a good idea and they have been fun to write. They have been. The outline for the first 13 books just seemed to write themselves. If all goes well I’d like to go back and write each of the girls their own trilogy, but I’m playing that by ear at the moment.

What inspirational advice would you give a new paranormal romance writer?

Virginia Hunter: Just do it! No excuses. Just make sure to spend the money on an editor and pay to have it formatted. Everything I read on all the writers boards said to do those things if you didn’t want to get bad reviews. So I did. Mostly because I didn’t want to tempt fate as a new author.

Who inspired you the most to become a writer?

Virginia Hunter: My husband. He writes epic fantasy. After he released his first two books he was the one that convinced me to give it a shot.

What is your favorite Halloween memory?

Virginia Hunter: I have so very many! My husband and I have been throwing a themed Halloween party every year for the past twenty years or so. We’ve done so many themes I don’t think I could pick just one. This year was pirates, and everyone looked great. We’ve also done voodoo, day of the dead, steampunk, vampires just to name a few lol. My son loves Halloween as much as I do. He’s 17 now and doesn’t look to stop enjoying it anytime soon. That, of course, makes me extremely happy.

What current projects are you working on?

Virginia Hunter: Currently, I am working on the next book in The Coven’s Grove Chronicles: Paige. Paige is a witch that can see and communicate with spirits. It’s more scary than the other’s I’ve written, but like with all current projects it is my current favorite 🙂

Be sure to visit the other participating authors’ websites to see all the other author interviews!

Interview with Arel B. Grant

arelbgrant1

Arel B. Grant is the author of The Raznak Hunter, her debut novel.

For my second April author interview, I had a chance to ask Arel B. Grant about her secrets. Arel writes classic fantasy complete with elves and dark, mysterious shadow villians. It is no secret that she is a fan of Tolkien. She lives in Florida drowning in the fav fantasy authors I share with her like Anne McCaffrey and J.K. Rowling. Secrets about her writing, her books, and tips for future fantasy writers are all revealed in the following interview.

1) Which book do you wish you had secretly written?

For Romance, I would love to have written Acheron, by Sherrilyn Kenyon. It’s a wonderful book in which the characters just jump out of the pages, and takes the reader through all the emotions in the spectrum. Truly well written.

For Fantasy, definitely Tolkien’s The Return of The King. This is my favorite fantasy book ever. I love the epicness of it all and how Tolkien weaves a marvelous conclusion to a story that was already incredibly good. I think every writer’s dream is to write something as remarkable and iconic as this.

2) What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Never give up! There are no things in life that come easy, and for those you really want, you have to fight hard, dirty and bloody. Writing is not going to be fun, is not going to be simple once you commit yourself to it. It’s a job like any other and it’s even harder because you are the one who decides when to start and when to finish. You are not likely to make much money of it either. Still, giving up is the worst thing you could possibly do. You have a voice, you have something to say, and somewhere in this world, there are people waiting to hear it.

3) What is your biggest ambition as an author?

I would definitely like to get to best-seller someday, but more than that, I think I just want to create something people believe in. I go to festivals and look at the people dressed like Luke Skywalker or Frodo or Harry Potter… that is my dream. For my world to impact someone so much that they will want to be a part of it, they will want to share it with the world and let everyone know they are passionate about it.

4) Are you a plotter or a pantser?

A little of both, I pants (or is it pantser?) my way through a novel most of the times, but I also have detailed character sheets and background sheets. I have summaries for the books and world-building information I take guidance from, although the specifics of the story are normally pantsed. I know what is supposed to happen, but not how or how the characters are going to get to that point. What do you make of that?

5) Do you have plans for any other books after the Razvak series has ended?

I have a “To Do” file larger than the yellow brick road! I have several other fantasy sagas planned, but these are probably not going to be as long as the Razvak Series. Also, I plan to release a Romance penname sometime next year, and also have plenty of material to fuel that one up. Right now I’m learning my way around this publishing machine, but when I do, I plan to take it all up with a vengeance.

Day 4 of the Paranormal Blog Tour: Author Interviews

Welcome to the fourth day of the Paranormal Romance Blog Tour. Today is Author Interview Day. I’ve got mini-interviews from several of the participating authors. They’re going to share some of their favorite Halloween moments, how they got writing ideas, and what inspired them.

J. A. Armtiage is the author of the Guardians of Light series.

First up: Author J. Armitage

How did you get the idea for your current book?
I’d always wanted to be a surrogate and one day I was travelling to London to meet the woman who I would eventually have a baby for. It was a long journey and I started musing how strange it was to have a baby for a total stranger. I then began to think about reasons for having a baby other than to be a mother. Endless Winter was born. (a year and a half later, the baby was also born:))
Who inspired you the most to become a writer?
I read a lot as a child. I read everything I could get my hands on. I think I read every Famous Five book there was. I carried on my love of reading into adulthood. One day I read a book that I really thought was bad. It was a best-seller. I figured that I could do better. Even though I’ve sold a lot less copies than this book, my ratings are higher. No – I’m not going to say which book it was.
What is your favorite Halloween memory?
I once dressed up as Delerium from Neil Gaiman’s Endless. I do love Neil Gaiman plus having multi-coloured hair was fun for the night
My second featured author is: Kessie Carroll

What inspirational advice would you give a new paranormal romancewriter?

Don’t write the genre unless you really like it, and you already read it a lot. There’s a lot of derivative tropes in this genre (especially in YA), and you want to produce fresh stories, not accidentally copy everybody else. Also, check out some urban fantasy, too. Lots and lots of romance there, and there’s quite a lot of crossover.

Who inspired you the most to become a writer?

My parents, the summer they revoked my Sega Genesis privileges. Ever the rebel, I sat down and began writing stories about the games I wasn’t getting to play.

As I grew out of fanfiction, my next inspiration was Diana Wynne Jones. She did things with fantasy I had never seen before, whether it was transforming a star into a dog (Dogsbody), pulling off the most amazing time travel plot ever (Archer’s Goon), or blowing my mind with seemingly-unrelated plots (The Merlin Conspiracy). I want to write books as awesome as hers.

What is your favorite Halloween memory?

One year, while trick or treating, my brother and I were greeted by a guy with a glass cage in his hands. Inside the cage were a couple of Reese’s with a tarantula sitting on them. “If you want some candy,” he said, “you’ll have to reach in and get them from Fang.”

My brother and I just stood there and stared in shock. This didn’t fit our trick or treating regimen.

Then his wife took pity on us and came out with the candy bowl. But as we were leaving, the guy called after us, “What’s the matter? It’s just a little old tarantula!”
